“Hamdi Mahboubyan,” a resident of Kamyaran, suffered limb amputation as a result of a mine explosion.
Hamdi Mahboubyan, a Kurdish citizen from Kamyaran, was severely wounded and suffered limb amputation in the foot area as a result of a mine explosion.
According to statistics recorded at the Statistics and Documentation Center of the “Hengaw” Human Rights Organization, four Kurdish citizens were victims of mine explosions in the past three days, one of whom lost his life. According to reports from this organization, yesterday, Thursday, April 9 (Farvardin 9), 48-year-old Hamdi Mahboubyan, an employee of the Telecommunications Department, went to “Pearl Pass” on a mission related to his workplace when he was struck by this accident. As a result of the explosion, he was severely wounded and lost his foot.
After the mine explosion and amputation of his foot, he was transferred to Kossir Hospital in Sanandaj and is currently under intensive care.
According to published statistics, 6 million hectares of Iranian soil are contaminated with mines, and over 20 million mines exist throughout Iran. The provinces of Ilam, Kermanshah, Sanandaj, and Urmia, due to their security and border locations, have the highest concentration of deployed mines.
Yesterday’s incident occurred while mine clearance operations in mine-contaminated areas in Kurdistan and southwestern Iran began in 1987 by forces of the Army, IRGC, and Basij, and from 1998 to 2003 were placed under the responsibility of the Ministry of Interior. From 2004, mine clearance has been the responsibility of the National Mine Action Center affiliated with the Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Support. However, many Kurdish citizens in these areas have still lost their lives or suffered limb amputation.
