Mohammad Khani Released from Evin Prison After Posting Bail

Mohammad Khani, a translator, researcher, and doctoral student at Allameh Tabataba’i University, was released from Evin Prison on Wednesday, November 12, after posting bail to continue his legal proceedings. Mr. Khani was arrested by security forces at his home on September 30 of this year and was transferred from the Ministry of Intelligence detention facility, known as Ward 209 in Evin Prison, to the general ward of the prison on November 3 after his interrogation concluded.
According to Hrana news agency, the news organ of the Iranian human rights activists collective, on Wednesday, November 12, 1399, Mohammad Khani, a translator, researcher, and doctoral student at Allameh Tabataba’i University, was released from Evin Prison after posting a bail of 500 million tomans.
Mohammad Khani was previously arrested by Ministry of Intelligence officials at his home on September 30 and was transferred to the ministry’s detention facility, known as Ward 209 in Evin Prison. During the arrest, officials searched his residence, confiscated some of his personal belongings, and took them with them.
On November 3, after his interrogations concluded, he was transferred from the Ministry of Intelligence detention facility, known as Ward 209 in Evin Prison, to the general ward of the prison.
Mr. Khani had previously been informed of charges in Branch 2 of the Evin Prosecutor’s Office regarding “assembly and collusion against national security and propaganda against the system.”
Mohammad Khani is a translator, social researcher, and doctoral student in the field of welfare and social policy at Allameh Tabataba’i University.
Mr. Khani spent some time under arrest by security forces in December 2017. In 2017, he was also a member of the professional council of Allameh Tabataba’i University and, along with professional councils from 30 universities across the country, responded to the arrest of students from various universities during the nationwide protests of December 2017 by publishing an open letter addressed to the Minister of Science, Research, and Technology.
