Forest Fire in Arasbaran Continues for Two Days

A forest fire in the Arasbaran forests in East Azerbaijan Province, which began two days ago, continues to spread.

Mohammadbaghir Honarmand, the general director of crisis management at the East Azerbaijan Province governorate, announced on Thursday, July 10th, that assistance has been requested from the Ministry of Defense, Tabriz Fire Department, and the Red Crescent’s rescue and relief team to contain the fire.

According to him, the extent of damage caused by this fire is still unclear.

Meanwhile, Hamid Hosseinpur, the chief executive of the Red Crescent Society of East Azerbaijan, told ISNA about the “complete containment of the fire in Qaratekanlu” in the Arasbaran region.

In recent weeks, similar fires have destroyed dozens of hectares of forests and rangelands in Kurdistan, Khuzestan, and Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad provinces, and at least four environmental activists have lost their lives while assisting in efforts to contain them.

In recent years, vast areas of Iran’s forests and rangelands have been destroyed due to fires or construction, and environmental activist groups have criticized the performance of the Islamic Republic authorities in this regard.
