Ned Price: We Hope Iranian Officials Travel to Vienna in Good Faith

The U.S. State Department spokesperson says Vienna negotiations should focus on remaining points from the end of the sixth round. Jen Psaki, White House spokesperson, also stated that the United States remains committed to continuing the path of diplomacy in addressing Iran’s nuclear program.

Ali Bagheri Kani, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, announced that JCPOA revival negotiations will begin before the end of November, with the exact date to be determined soon.

Jen Psaki, White House spokesperson, responded to these statements by saying: “We will await confirmation from the European Union in this regard.”

Ali Bagheri Kani, on Wednesday, October 27, after meeting with Enrique Mora, Deputy Coordinator of Foreign Policy of the European Union, wrote on Twitter: “I had a serious and constructive dialogue with Enrique Mora regarding essential elements for successful negotiations. We agreed to begin negotiations before the end of November (second week of Azar).”

Ned Price, spokesperson for the United States Department of State, also showed a cautious reaction to this announcement. The French news agency reported Price as saying: “Negotiations should focus on finalizing the remaining points from the end of the sixth round of Vienna talks.”

He added that the United States is ready to return to Vienna negotiations and believes in quickly reaching an agreement and full bilateral commitment to the JCPOA.

Price had also clarified one week earlier: “We believe that negotiations [for JCPOA revival] in Vienna should resume as soon as possible from where they stopped in June.”

Jen Psaki, White House spokesperson, also made a similar statement: “Our frameworks continue to be based on reciprocal compliance for compliance.”

Since Ibrahim Raisi took office as head of the thirteenth government, there has been a four-month gap in the JCPOA Joint Commission negotiations. The sixth round of JCPOA Joint Commission negotiations ended on June 20.

Ned Price, U.S. State Department spokesperson, expressed hope that Iranian officials will travel to Vienna in “good faith.” In this connection, he reminded that the opportunity for these negotiations is not “eternal.”

Hossein Amirabdollahian, Foreign Minister of the thirteenth government, at the end of the Afghanistan Neighbors meeting in Tehran, addressed the President of the United States and said, “If America acts in good faith, it should release 10 billion dollars of Iran’s frozen assets.”
