Nikki Haley: Grateful to President Trump That Iranian Protesters Now Have an Ally in America

The U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, referring to President Trump’s policy on Iran and his support for Iranian protesters, described it as an example of the resurgence of American leadership in the world.

Nikki Haley, speaking Monday night at the Hudson Institute’s annual awards ceremony, recalled Iran and said: “We are grateful for our leadership. The people of Iran, who risk their lives protesting their government, now know they have an ally in the United States of America.”

She emphasized: “The money from the West that Iran used for financial aid to Hezbollah, sending missiles to Yemen and fighting in defense of Assad is running out.

Ms. Haley also criticized the Obama administration for signing the nuclear agreement with the Islamic Republic – which President Trump withdrew from.

Haley said: When we withdrew from the nuclear agreement, our European friends were not happy, but it should be said how upset the terrorist government in Iran became. The Iran deal was a bad agreement for the security of the United States and the world. That agreement was also a bad deal for the Iranian people. This agreement was only good for the Iranian government.

The Hudson Institute presents the annual “Herman Kahn” award, named after the institute’s founder, each year. Past recipients include Ronald Reagan, Henry Kissinger, Mike Pence, Rupert Murdoch, and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu.

Monday was supposed to see this award presented to Paul Ryan, Speaker of the House of Representatives, but he was unable to attend the ceremony due to his participation in the memorial service for “George Herbert Walker Bush” in the U.S. Congress in Washington.
