Official COVID-19 Statistics in Iran; Death Toll Approaches 30,000

According to a report from Iran’s Ministry of Health over the past 24 hours, 256 coronavirus patients lost their lives and the total number of victims reached 29,605.

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Medical Education on Thursday, October 15th, announced the identification of 4,616 new patients and said: “The total number of people infected with this disease in Iran has reached 517,835.”

The official COVID-19 statistics in Iran, announced by the Ministry of Health, have always been subject to doubt. The Research Center of the Parliament had previously estimated the number of victims to be twice and the number of infected to be 8 to 10 times the official figures.

According to Ms. Lari, 4,671 COVID-19 patients are under care in “severe condition” of this disease.

Meanwhile, according to Mehr News Agency, the commander of the coronavirus response headquarters declared Wednesday, October 14th, as one of the darkest days of coronavirus in the capital and said: “The highest mortality rate in Tehran was recorded in the metropolis of Tehran yesterday.”

The number of coronavirus victims in Iran set a record for the fifth consecutive day on Tuesday and Wednesday, and according to official statistics on Wednesday, October 14th, it reached 279 in the past 24 hours.

AliReza Zali, commander of the coronavirus response headquarters in Tehran, referring to the continuation of “red status” of coronavirus in Tehran and the crowding of medical centers, added: “Traffic restrictions in Tehran can be very effective and can significantly reduce the disease burden in the coming days.”

On the other hand, according to ILNA, the Deputy Minister of Health of the Ministry of Health, Treatment and Medical Education, referring to the decline in citizen participation in observing health protocols, said: “Unfortunately, this rate has now reached 42 percent and we are witnessing the third and severe wave of coronavirus in the country.”

AliReza Raisi emphasized that “compliance with health protocols of less than 80 percent does not have the necessary effectiveness.”

According to the spokesperson of the Ministry of Health, the provinces of Tehran, Isfahan, Qom, East Azerbaijan, South Khorasan, Semnan, Qazvin, Lorestan, Ardabil, Khuzestan, Kermanshah, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, Gilan, Bushehr, Zanjan, Ilam, Razavi Khorasan, Mazandaran, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, Alborz, West Azerbaijan, Markazi, Kerman, North Khorasan, Hamadan and Yazd are in red status, and the provinces of Kurdistan, Hormozgan, Fars and Golestan are also in alert status.
