Pakistan’s Foreign Minister: Iran and Saudi Arabia Seek Reconciliation

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister has stated that Iran and Saudi Arabia are demonstrating their intention to resolve their differences through diplomatic means. Pakistan’s Prime Minister has recently met with the leaders of both countries.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, said on Wednesday, October 16, that there is evidence showing that Iran and Saudi Arabia are willing to resolve their differences through dialogue.
The Pakistani Foreign Minister did not provide further elaboration but attributed the conciliatory stance of the two countries to the visit of Imran Khan, Pakistan’s Prime Minister, to Iran and Saudi Arabia.
Imran Khan recently visited both countries with the aim of mediating between them and has encouraged their leaders to resolve their differences through dialogue.
Imran Khan traveled to Iran last Sunday and two days later, on Tuesday, October 15, to Saudi Arabia, where he met with Muhammad bin Salman, the influential Crown Prince of the kingdom, for talks.
Tensions between the two major regional powers have a long history, but have recently escalated following missile attacks on Saudi Arabia’s oil industries.
Donald Trump, who holds Iran responsible for the attack on Saudi Arabia’s oil facilities (Aramco), had encouraged Pakistan’s Prime Minister to mediate between the two rival countries.
