Qatar Calls for Direct Dialogue between Arab Countries and Iran

Mohammad bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Qatar’s Foreign Minister, emphasized dialogue between Arab countries and Iran in an interview with Bloomberg news agency. He announced Qatar’s readiness to mediate between Arab countries and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Following the improvement of diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and its allies with Qatar, the issue of reducing tensions in relations between Arab countries and the Islamic Republic has now been raised.

Reuters news agency, in a report from Doha, the capital of Qatar, announced this country’s readiness to mediate between Iran and Arab countries.

Mohammad bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, in an interview with Bloomberg, spoke of the necessity of establishing dialogue between Arab countries and Iran.

Qatar’s Foreign Minister also stated that his country can provide the ground for dialogue between Arab countries and Iran.

Qatar’s Foreign Minister emphasized that negotiations and dialogue with Iran have also been raised by some other members of the Gulf Cooperation Council. Mohammad bin Abdulrahman Al Thani did not mention the names of these countries.

He also emphasized that Qatar will continue to support advancing negotiations between the Islamic Republic and South Korea over the release of a detained tanker belonging to that country.

The tanker was seized by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in the early part of this month. Iran has stated the reason for the seizure of this tanker as “environmental violation.”

Qatar’s Foreign Minister also said that if both Iran and the United States are willing, his country can take steps to facilitate direct dialogue between the two countries.
