Re-arrest of Political Activist Reza Norouzi

Reza Norouzi, a political activist who had been living in hiding following his release, has been re-arrested by agents of the Ministry of Intelligence.

Reza Norouzi, born in 1368, is from Sarab. In Ordibehesht of 1400, along with his wife and two young children, he set his Nissan pickup truck on fire in Revolution Square and, while chanting protest slogans against the regime, called on people to join the “No to Islamic Republic” campaign. Apparently, Reza Norouzi was among the first brave individuals who openly and fearlessly voiced his protest against the Islamic Republic system among the general public. He was immediately arrested following this action and transferred to the Ministry of Intelligence’s detention facility 209.

He spent 2 months in solitary confinement and underwent intensive interrogations, after which he was transferred to Ward 4 of Evin Prison. He was sentenced by Judge Iman Afshari to 10 years imprisonment on charges of “assembly and conspiracy against national security” and “propaganda against the regime,” a verdict that was upheld in the appeals court with 5 years of the sentence being enforceable.

According to reports from Reza Norouzi’s lawyer, following 2 years and one month of imprisonment, he was released on June 6, 1402 under a 500 million toman bail. He lived in hiding for some time and had returned home to visit his family when, a few hours ago, he was arrested by Ministry of Intelligence agents and transferred to an undisclosed location.
