Reuters Reports Iranian-Linked Hackers’ Attempts to Access World Health Organization Employees’ Emails

Reuters news agency reported in an exclusive report, citing four informed sources, that hackers linked to the Iranian government attempted to penetrate the personal emails of World Health Organization members during the outbreak of the new coronavirus (COVID-19 disease).
According to this report, which was published on Thursday, April 3, it remains unclear whether the hackers were able to gain access to employee email information.
These attacks demonstrate that employees of the World Health Organization and other institutions on the frontlines of fighting COVID-19 have been subjected to continuous digital attacks by hackers seeking information about the disease’s spread.
The latest effort to hack emails has continued since early last month (March) and has included attempts to steal passwords of the organization’s employees.
Reuters says the World Health Organization’s spokesperson confirmed that the personal emails of the organization’s employees have been attacked by hackers through measures called “phishing attacks”; however, he added that the World Health Organization does not know who is behind these attacks. He stated that, as far as the organization knows, none of the attacks have been successful.
