A Number of Volunteer Aid Workers Arrested by IRGC in Khuzestan

Following floods in Khuzestan Province, reports indicate that a number of civilian and volunteer aid workers have been arrested by IRGC intelligence officers in Goriyeh Village.
The Iran Human Rights Campaign reported on Thursday, April 11, citing human rights activist Karim Dahimi, that two aid workers from Khuzestan named Ahmad Kaebi and Yaqoub Kaebi were arrested on Friday, April 6, and nine civilian aid workers were arrested on Sunday, April 8, by IRGC intelligence officers. These individuals had gone to Goriyeh Village to provide assistance to flood victims.
Karim Dahimi, referring to local sources in Goriyeh Village, told the campaign: “Ahmad and Yaqoub Kaebi, who were working at the aid camp, were arrested by IRGC intelligence officers for unknown reasons, and we still have no information about where they are being held.”
According to Mr. Dahimi, Ahmad Kaebi holds a master’s degree in law and is a cultural activist from the city of Shushtar; Yaqoub Kaebi is also an artistic and cultural activist from Shushtar.
Karim Dahimi also stated regarding the arrest of civilian aid workers that these young Arab men, who had gone to Goriyeh Village to distribute food and collected aid, were arrested due to disagreements and disputes with IRGC officers.
Goriyeh Village is one of the villages in the city of Shueibiyeh in Shushtar County in Khuzestan Province. In recent days, many people from surrounding cities have voluntarily gone to Goriyeh Village and other villages in Shushtar to provide assistance.
