Reza Pahlavi Calls for Biden’s Solidarity with Iranian People

Prince Reza Pahlavi published a letter on his Telegram page calling on Joe Biden, the new President of the United States, to show solidarity with the Iranian people against the “ruthless and medieval dictatorship of the Islamic Republic.”
In this letter, published on Wednesday, the first day of Bahman month, coinciding with Biden’s inauguration as the new U.S. President, Pahlavi writes that he is encouraged by Biden’s commitment during his election campaign to advance democracy and human rights beyond America’s borders.
The letter continues: “Given the growing power and momentum of the democracy and human rights movement in my country, Iran, my compatriots hope and expect that, as they continue their struggle against the ruthless and medieval dictatorship of the Islamic Republic, you and your administration will stand in solidarity with them.”
During his election campaign, Biden promised to return to the JCPOA, but stated that this would not be easy.
Lloyd Austin, retired U.S. Army general who is set to lead the Pentagon in Biden’s administration, also described on Wednesday the Iranian government as a threat to America’s allies in the region and forces stationed there.
Additionally, Avril Haines, Biden’s nominee for the position of National Intelligence Director, said on Tuesday that “we have a long road ahead” before Iran comes under strict supervision again within the framework of the JCPOA.
