Rising Gasoline Prices Unemployed 60,000 Iranian Fishermen

Iran newspaper reported in a news story about the direct unemployment of 60,000 fishermen due to increased gasoline prices and the critical situation of their families.

Based on the report from Monday, December 9, the newspaper stated that “consuming 50 to 150 liters of gasoline daily at a price of 3,000 tomans per liter is not economical for fishermen” and they have been forced to stop their work.

The newspaper wrote that more than a month after the three-fold increase in gasoline prices, on Sunday, December 8, a monthly quota of 1,200 liters of gasoline at the rate of 1,500 tomans per liter was determined and approved for gasoline-powered vessels.

Eshaq Tandaro, chairman of the board of directors of the fishermen’s union, also told the newspaper: “Since gasoline was rationed, fishermen have not received even a single liter of gasoline.”

Referring to the fact that the lack of rationed gasoline has directly unemployed 60,000 fishermen, he said that given the decline in fishing, this issue has also affected fish prices, and “the price of fish, which was 40,000 tomans per kilogram a month ago, has now increased to 85,000 tomans and even higher.”
