Samira Ebrahimi, Bahai Citizen, Summoned to Evin Prosecutor’s Office

Hrana News Agency – Samira Ebrahimi, a Bahai citizen, has been summoned to Branch 2 of Evin Prosecutor’s Office through a notice. Ms. Ebrahimi has been required to appear at this branch within 10 days from the date of notification.

According to Hrana News Agency, the news outlet of the Human Rights Activists Network in Iran, Samira Ebrahimi, a Bahai citizen, has been summoned to Evin Prosecutor’s Office through a notice.

Based on this notification, which was recently issued by Branch 2 of the Evin Prosecutor’s Office and delivered to this citizen, Ms. Ebrahimi has been required to appear at this branch within 10 days from the date of notification.

Arslan Yazdani, Ms. Ebrahimi’s husband, was also arrested by security forces in Tehran on Shahrivarmaah 10, and was temporarily released from Evin Prison on Mehr 24, pending bail and until the completion of legal proceedings.

Bahai citizens in Iran are deprived of freedoms related to religious beliefs. This systematic deprivation occurs despite Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 18 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which provide that everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion, including the freedom to change religion or belief, and the freedom to express this individually or collectively, publicly or privately.

According to unofficial sources in Iran, there are over three hundred thousand Bahai citizens, but Iran’s constitution recognizes only Islam, Christianity, Judaism, and Zoroastrianism, and does not recognize the Bahai faith as a legitimate religion. For this reason, the rights of Bahais in Iran have been systematically violated over the years.
