Saqez Representative Reports Shotgun Pellet Wounds to Protester’s Intestines Following Mahsa Amini’s Death

Social media reports indicate that following the funeral of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old who died in the detention of Tehran’s morality police, protest gatherings were held in Saqez and Sanandaj on Saturday, September 26, day and night.
Meanwhile, early Sunday morning, images were also released showing the beginning of protest gatherings at Tehran University against mandatory hijab and Mahsa Amini’s death, in which protesters chanted “Woman, Life, Freedom.”
Following Mahsa (Zhina) Amini’s funeral ceremony, Islamic Republic security forces opened fire and tear gas to disperse protesting crowds in Saqez.
Behzad Rahimi, Saqez’s representative in Parliament, acknowledged on Sunday in a conversation with ILNA news agency that there was unrest during Mahsa Amini’s funeral ceremony and said that “no one was killed and we only had a number of walking wounded; however, one person has been hospitalized at Saqez hospital due to shotgun pellet wounds to his intestines.”
He also acknowledged that police forces and the hospital had “poor information dissemination, accountability, and lack of transparency and delay” regarding Mahsa Amini’s condition.
According to the human rights website Hengaw, at least 13 people were wounded following security forces’ gunfire in Saqez, and one of the injured’s condition was reported as critical. According to this report, at least seven citizens were arrested during Saturday’s protests in Saqez.
Meanwhile, images were released of protest gatherings by people in Sanandaj’s streets in protest against Mahsa Amini’s death, and images were also released of clashes between police forces and citizens in Sanandaj’s Quds Square.
In released images from these protests, the voices of protesters can be heard chanting slogans such as “Killing for a scarf, when will it end,” “Woman, Life, Freedom,” “Death to the dictator,” and “Death to Khamenei.”
The Hengaw website says that during the security forces’ attack on the protest gathering in Sanandaj, a number were “violently” arrested by security forces.
Government officials in Iran have not yet released statistics on the wounded and arrested from protests in Saqez and Sanandaj.
Civil activists say that “at least eight Sanandaj citizens” were wounded by military bullets and shotgun pellets. According to these reports, “a 14-year-old teenage girl is also among the wounded, who was transferred to Kawthar Hospital and underwent surgery.”
Some reports also indicate that dozens of people have been arrested in Sanandaj.
Civil activists in Twitter posts say that the wounded from Sanandaj protests do not visit medical centers out of fear of arrest.
Mahsa Amini, who had traveled with her family from Saqez to Tehran to visit relatives, fell into a coma on September 22 hours after being detained by morality police officers, and died in the hospital three days later.
The release of initial news of Mahsa Amini’s brain death and her subsequent death in the hospital has sparked widespread reactions in streets and social media.
Political groups from various spectrums, political figures, sports personalities, and some non-Iranian figures have reacted to and condemned Mahsa Amini’s death.
