Second Day of Refinery Workers’ Strike in Tehran

Workers in the basic maintenance section of Tandguyān oil refinery in Tehran continued their strike and gathering on Tuesday for the second day.

According to the Coordination Council of Protesting Contract Oil Workers, they are protesting against increased working hours and low wages.

In recent days, strikes have been held in some of Iran’s oil regions. The strike of scaffold workers in more than 20 contracting companies in these areas is among the strikes that began in recent days.

Drivers and workers of the West Oil and Gas Exploitation Company also held a strike on Monday in two oil regions of Aban and Paydar, and gathered at the company’s location in Dehloran.

In this company, five months of drivers’ wages and three months of workers’ wages have not been paid.

Social security retirees also gathered on Tuesday in the city of Ahvaz and called for the cancellation of the government’s decision to increase salaries of non-minimum wage earners by 10 percent.

Among the slogans they chanted: “Where is this justice / His hand in the people’s pocket.”

The Ebrahim Raisi government issued a circular on June 5 (Khordad 15) based on which the salaries of non-minimum wage earners in social security would increase by 10 percent.

Since then, social security retirees have held daily protest gatherings in various cities.

They are calling for the implementation of the Supreme Labor Council’s resolution regarding a 38 percent increase in salaries for non-minimum wage earners.

Previously, the committee for reviewing and adapting government decisions to laws in parliament had annulled this resolution, but the government’s media council and the head of the Planning and Budget Organization opposed it.
