A civil activist in Malayer reported being beaten and tortured after his arrest during protest gatherings in December.

Timour Khaldian told the Campaign for Human Rights in Iran on Saturday, May 19, that after his arrest during protest gatherings last December, he was subjected to “severe beating and sexual torture” at a police station.

He explained that officers beat him with tasers, batons, fists, and kicks, and then tortured him to such an extent that he was unable to sit for some time.

This human rights activist, Timour Khaldian, was also arrested in 2015 and 2016 for sending news about Malayer Prison to human rights media outlets, and was once sentenced to six months in prison on charges of propaganda against the state.

Mr. Khaldian is set to be tried in the coming days on charges of “assembly and collusion to act against national security” and “propaganda against the state.”

Meanwhile, ILNA news agency reported that Iman Mohammadpur, a civil activist in Gachsaran, was attacked by masked individuals and was hospitalized.

Although according to the news agency there is no information yet about the motives of the attackers, some reports on social media suggest that Mr. Mohammadpur had recently written an article criticizing the performance of the head of the Enjoining Good and Forbidding Evil office of the Gachsaran Oil and Gas Operating Company.

Human rights organizations have repeatedly condemned threats against and detention of civil activists and human rights defenders in Iran.
