Trial of Nahid Taqavi Begins on “Security” Charges at Islamic Revolution Court

Tehran’s Islamic Revolution Court has begun the trial of Nahid Taqavi, an Iranian-German dual citizen, on charges of acting against national security. Maryam Claren has expressed concern about her mother’s physical condition. The date of the next court session remains unclear.

The first hearing of Nahid Taqavi’s trial took place in Branch 26 of the Islamic Revolution Court of Tehran on April 28 (the eighth of Ordibehesht). It has been reported that the next hearing will be held soon. However, no specific date has been announced for this session.

France’s news agency reported on Wednesday, April 28, about the first hearing of Nahid Taqavi’s trial. Nahid Taqavi, 66 years old, was arrested in her apartment in Tehran in October of last year (October 16).

According to information released by the International Human Rights Defense Society, Nahid Taqavi has been a civil activist and a defender of women’s rights and freedom of expression.

Maryam Claren, Nahid Taqavi’s daughter, announced the beginning of her mother’s trial in the aforementioned branch of Tehran’s Islamic Revolution Court by posting on Twitter. Nahid Taqavi’s daughter also stated that she was unaware of the date of the next hearing in her mother’s trial.

Maryam Claren stated that her mother was able to have a visit with her siblings after seven months in prison. This occurred while Nahid Taqavi’s brothers had been prevented from attending her trial hearing.

Iranian Islamic Republic authorities have classified Nahid Taqavi’s charges as “security-related” and have accused her of propaganda against the system.

Maryam Claren told a France Press Agency correspondent that her mother is an architect and is currently imprisoned in Evin Prison.

Nahid Taqavi’s daughter also announced that her mother spent the past four weeks in solitary confinement. Maryam Claren has expressed concern about her mother’s health condition in Evin Prison.

According to Maryam Claren’s statements, her mother’s defense lawyer gained access to the indictment text and her client’s file for the first time last Saturday, after several months had passed.

Heiko Maas, Germany’s Foreign Minister, also announced in October of last year that he was informed of the arrest of this Iranian-German dual citizen.

The International Human Rights Defense Society has declared Nahid Taqavi innocent and has called for the immediate release of this civil activist and women’s rights defender.
