Uncertain Legal Status of ‘Ibrahim Parsamehr’ in Ahvaz Prison: The Lawyer Who Represented Christian Citizens

The continued detention of “Ibrahim Parsamehr,” a lawyer representing Christian citizens, has intensified uncertainty and concerns about his legal and humanitarian situation.
Ibrahim Parsamehr, a lawyer who was pursuing cases of Christian citizens in Khuzestan Province, has been detained since June 24, 2025, and has been held indefinitely in Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz for over several months. His family and human rights sources state that no official verdict or public trial regarding his charges has been published.
Parsamehr’s arrest took place at his personal residence, and his home was also subjected to search. Prior to his arrest, he had been handling cases of Christian citizens in Ahvaz, Izeh, and other areas of Khuzestan Province, and had come under the attention of security authorities due to his legal and civil activities.
Some reports suggest that the reason for his arrest may have been due to the publication of content regarding the Israel-Iran conflict, although no official evidence or definitive charges have been announced by judicial authorities. His situation continues to be described as “indefinite,” meaning his family and lawyers have no information about the legal proceedings or final verdict.
This detention, alongside similar arrests in Khuzestan, including “Mohsen Taran,” “Sajad Poursakhaout,” and “Milad Faghfouri,” has intensified concerns among human rights activists. International and local human rights organizations have repeatedly warned about the use of indefinite detention status and denial of access to legal counsel as a lever to pressure ideological individuals.
Parsamehr’s situation exemplifies the challenges of religious freedom and judicial justice in Iran. The continuation of this detention without transparency has raised new concerns about human rights and legal protections for lawyers and activists of religious minorities in Iran.
