United Voice for Boycotting June 2021 Elections

A number of civil and political activists from 50 cities and 25 provinces of Iran, through a letter, called upon the people to boycott the 2021 presidential elections so that an anti-people government does not continue. The content of this letter, which has been signed by families of victims of nationwide protests, religious minorities, and civil and political activists, is as follows:

To the Great People of Iran

United Voice for Boycotting June 2021 Elections
and Nonviolent Transition from the Islamic Republic
to a Government of the People, by the People, and for the People

Dear Compatriots,

We, the signatories of this letter, representing a spectrum of the Iranian nation, from dissidents, believers of various faiths and religions, from diverse tribes and backgrounds of Iran, from various provinces, cities and villages across our beloved country, are like you, millions of Iranian citizens who have become victims of corruption, violence, and the failure of the velayat-e faqih (guardianship of the jurist) governance and the closed, dictatorial constitutional system imposed upon us.

We humbly and affectionately ask you, our esteemed compatriots, to join us in uniting for the preservation of Iran’s national interests and the protection of the people’s lives and property, for a nonviolent and peaceful transition from the dilapidated system of velayat-e faqih and the inhumane, anti-human constitutional order, toward achieving a democratic secular constitution based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, under the banner of the Democratic Secular National Solidarity Movement, by boycotting the theatrical June 28, 2021 presidential elections of the Islamic Republic, so that the current anti-people government does not continue.

The world today, witnessing widespread popular protests over the past 42 years that were severely suppressed, particularly in the last 12 years, from the June 2009 uprising, December 2017 and November 2019 to the present, has seen the will of “we” the Iranian people in opposition to the kleptocratic, religiously-oriented system of the Islamic Republic (velayat-e faqih – Ali Khamenei and his constitution) and our aspiration to achieve a democratic and universal constitution.

The foundations of human rights and the interests of the Iranian nation for coexistence in democratic alignment with neighboring countries and other nations of the world are in no way negotiable, and the world must understand this well.

We strongly state that those parts of the global community that stand alongside the Democratic Secular National Solidarity Movement of Iran and are not seeking to trade the nation’s interests with the kleptocratic religiously-oriented rulers of the Islamic Republic at the negotiation table, will remain enduring in the historical memory of the Iranian nation and will be true friends and allies of democratic Iran.

Dear Compatriots, the widespread boycott of the fake and fabricated presidential elections by the masses of the Iranian people expresses our will and vote in alignment with the National Solidarity Movement. This movement, with firm resolve to replace the apartheid religious constitution of the Islamic Republic with a new democratic constitution that guarantees the unconditional implementation of human rights for each citizen of our country, is pursued on the basis of creating the following conditions:

1. The removal of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei,
2. Holding a referendum for the dissolution of the Islamic Republic’s constitution,
3. Creating the necessary and sufficient conditions for holding free and fair elections during a transitional period under the supervision of impartial organizations such as the United Nations to form a Constituent Assembly,
4. Drafting a new constitution for the country by the Constituent Assembly, based on the following values:

  1. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted December 10, 1948, and all its conventions and covenants,
  2. The separation of religion from government based on full respect for all religions, beliefs and dissidents,
  3. Equality of citizenship rights for all of the Iranian nation regardless of belief, gender, tribe and background before the law,
  4. Equality of rights between women and men in all aspects of life and politics,
  5. Freedom of thought and expression, freedom of press and media,
  6. Freedom of association and the activity of parties, workers’ unions, craftsmen’s unions, artists’ unions, writers’ associations and the like,
  7. Establishment of a free economy based on social justice and prohibition of any monopoly, creation of equal opportunities for all citizens,
  8. Pursuit of peaceful foreign policy and constructive diplomatic relations based on national interests, commitment to and respect for international law and order to maintain peace and security and stability in the region and around the world, and commitment to protocols on the non-proliferation of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons.

The realization of these aspirations rests on the shoulders of all sectors of Iranian society, including craftspeople, artists, journalists, educators, workers, athletes, enlightened clergy and government officials, to become partners in this national path and in support of the National Solidarity Movement with the Iranian people for boycotting elections and nonviolent transition from the Islamic Republic system. This is for all people regardless of gender, religion, tribe and beliefs – the Republic of Iran.

To the Armed Forces of Iran:
Each of you, honorable children of this land, fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, friends, acquaintances and neighbors of the people and fellow members of the Iranian family. We call upon you, guardians of this land and soil, to stand with the National Solidarity Movement for a nonviolent transition from the Islamic Republic to a democratic secular government. “We, the people of Iran” have been struggling for over a century to achieve democracy and human rights, and we deserve livable conditions and a bright future for all.

From the bitter memory of 1979, we learned that revenge, elimination of opposition, executions, incitement of hatred and violence have destroyed the cultural, moral, economic, political and social fabric of our country. Iran, this ancient human civilization built on vast natural and human resources, has been led to misery and poverty and global isolation under the Islamic Republic. We, as a nation, from steadfast opponents to government bodies, have all been trapped in bitter servitude under the kleptocratic, religiously-oriented rulers of the Islamic Republic.

Post-Islamic Republic Iran will be governed within the framework of rule of law based on human rights. No citizen will be arrested or imprisoned for their political beliefs and ideologies. State executions and death sentences will be completely eliminated, and revenge and enmity will be removed from among us. Those whose hands are stained with crimes against the Iranian people will be accountable to the people in an independent democratic civil justice system and will be treated fairly.

We signatories of this letter, with mutual aid, from merchants to intellectuals, from workers and laborers to entrepreneurs, from thinkers and educators to armed forces, united until our last breath, will remain committed to the path of the Democratic Secular National Solidarity Movement for the establishment of the rule of law based on democracy and human rights values. Without doubt, we the people of Iran will achieve victory, and a unified Iran will again play a fundamental role in the global village on the foundation of diplomacy, friendship and cooperation with the free world in the expansion of peace and stability.

With humility and warmest wishes
