The White House National Security Advisor announced that the United States will halt its support for military operations in Yemen.
According to the German news agency, Jake Sullivan said in a press conference on Thursday, February 4, that Joe Biden, the new US President, wants to introduce a new special envoy for Yemen affairs to play a “more active and committed” role in resolving Yemen’s disputes.

The United States has so far supported the military operations of the Saudi Arabia-led coalition in Yemen, which has targeted Iranian-backed Houthi militants. This coalition has repeatedly carried out airstrikes in Yemen that have also resulted in the deaths of many civilians.
The Saudi Arabia-led coalition supports the internationally recognized government of Yemen against the Houthis.
The United Nations has repeatedly warned that Yemen is on the brink of famine, to the point where hundreds of thousands of people in the country could lose their lives.
According to the organization, the humanitarian crisis of Yemen’s people became more difficult when Donald Trump, the former US President, placed Houthi militants on the country’s terrorist list.
Biden is expected to review this matter in the near future.
