US Representative at UN: Assad is a ‘War Criminal’ Supported by Russia and Iran

The United States representative at the United Nations, in an interview with Fox News, called Bashar Assad, the president of Syria, a war criminal who has long been supported by Russia and Iran.
According to Nikki Haley, the Trump administration also hopes that Assad will be brought to justice for creating a severe humanitarian crisis and continuing the massacres that have led to the destruction of his country.
Ms. Haley further criticized the former US President Barack Obama’s administration for failing to take action to prevent the expansion of war in Syria, saying the previous administration should be held accountable.
In another part of her Monday interview with Fox News, Nikki Haley, while criticizing Russia’s support for Assad in the Security Council, said that we must end the influence of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Syria.
These remarks by the US ambassador to the United Nations came five days after she told a group of journalists in New York that Washington’s diplomacy is no longer focused on Bashar Assad’s stepping down.
Simultaneously on Thursday, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson also said in remarks in Ankara, the capital of Turkey, that the fate of Bashar Assad in the long term depends on the decision of the Syrian people.
A day later, the White House spokesman, in support of the positions of the secretary of state and the US representative at the United Nations regarding the ruler of Damascus, said, “There is a political reality that we must accept.”
The United States and its allies support opponents of Damascus; however, Russia and Iran are two steadfast supporters of Bashar Assad who say that his role must be taken into account in any political solution to end the war in Syria.
