US Security Report: Iran’s 60% Uranium Enrichment is a Step Toward 90% Uranium

A US security and intelligence report states that Iran is currently not engaged in key activities for producing nuclear weapons. The report confirms that if sanctions are not lifted, Tehran will begin 60% uranium enrichment.

American security and intelligence experts in a 27-page report have pointed to Iran’s intention to begin 60% uranium enrichment and considered it a step toward reaching uranium enriched up to 90%, which can be used in atomic weapons.

In this annual report released on April 13, it stated: “We assess that Iran is not currently undertaking the key nuclear weapons-development activities that we judge would be necessary to produce a nuclear weapon.”

American security and intelligence experts said: “If sanctions against Tehran are not lifted, Iranian officials would likely pursue this capability and move toward 60% enrichment and also build a 40-megawatt heavy water reactor.”

The Iranian Foreign Ministry announced on Tuesday evening, April 13 (Farvardin 24), that Iran will begin 60% uranium enrichment.

Hours later, the International Atomic Energy Agency also confirmed this and said Iran has informed the agency that it will begin 60% enrichment.

Jen Psaki, White House spokesperson, called Tehran’s move “provocative” and said the US is concerned about it. However, she emphasized that Washington seeks a return to the nuclear agreement JCPOA.

This comes as Iran’s negotiations with the P4+1 countries in Vienna are ongoing. These talks were scheduled to continue on Wednesday, April 14, but were postponed to the following day.

American security and intelligence experts also said in their report that North Korea will conduct a nuclear test this year to force the Biden administration to engage in negotiations with Pyongyang.
