“Waqas Masih” Christian Citizen Targeted in Attack by Muslim Coworker

“Waqas Masih,” a 22-year-old Christian citizen, was targeted in an attack by a Muslim coworker over allegations of insulting Islam.

According to a report by “Worthi News,” Waqas Masih, a 22-year-old Christian citizen from Pakistan who was working at a paper manufacturing factory in the “Sharakpur Sharif” area of Punjab province, was targeted in a violent attack by one of his Muslim coworkers over allegations of insulting Islam and was transferred to a hospital due to his injuries.

Waqas sustained deep wounds to his neck and shoulder, and after emergency transfer to “Mayo Lahore” hospital, several specialized surgeries were performed on him. His condition has been reported as showing relative improvement, but his family remains concerned about the psychological and social damage resulting from the incident.

The cause of the attack was Waqas’s physical contact with the Quran with unwashed hands. One eyewitness who was present at the scene told reporters: “This young Christian man fell to the ground after being beaten and considerable blood flowed from his neck.”

Waqas’s father, “Riaz Masih,” has announced that a person named “Zahib Iftikhar” attacked his son with a sharp blade, but has not yet responded to this accusation. Evidence also indicates that the dispute between these two coworkers began on March 20 due to a work-related disagreement.

Human rights activist “Sardar Mushtaq Gill” commented on the incident: “The accused ultimately accused this Christian worker of tearing pages from the Quran, an accusation that carries severe punishment under Pakistan’s laws.” Masih’s family rejected this accusation through a statement, deeming it a result of personal animosity and malicious motives. Sardar Gill also warned about the increasing number of cases related to insulting sacred beliefs, stating: “The international community must hold Pakistani authorities accountable for such incidents. There is no justification for violating fundamental human rights.”

Reverend “Imran Amanat,” one of the leaders of Pakistan’s Christian community, also expressed his views on this matter: “We must unite against all forms of religious bigotry. The only way to end this cycle of violence is through dialogue and interfaith cooperation.”
