White House Reacts to Iran’s Unwillingness to Negotiate with America

The Islamic Republic has rejected a European invitation to hold a meeting on the nuclear agreement with the presence of the United States. The White House called Iran’s negative response to holding this meeting “disappointing” and spoke of its readiness to conduct negotiations.

The Islamic Republic’s negative response to an invitation from Josep Borrell, the European Union’s foreign policy coordinator, regarding holding a session to discuss the JCPOA, has prompted a reaction from the White House.

Reuters news agency, in publishing a report related to Iran’s negative response, wrote that the White House called this action by the Islamic Republic “disappointing” and emphasized America’s readiness to make efforts to reach an agreement with Iran over the nuclear dispute.

The stated objective of the aforementioned meeting was to provide the groundwork for the United States’ return to the 2015 nuclear agreement and the revival of the JCPOA.

One White House spokesperson stated that the United States will negotiate with other permanent members of the UN Security Council as well as Germany to determine a common solution regarding Iran’s nuclear activities.

Saeed Khatibzadeh, spokesman for the Islamic Republic’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, had stated that there is no need for negotiations with the United States for a return to the JCPOA.

The Islamic Republic stated that whenever the United States lifts the sanctions imposed by the Trump administration, Iran will also comply with its JCPOA commitments. This comes as the new U.S. administration has made lifting sanctions conditional on Iran’s adherence to its JCPOA commitments.
