Tehran Shopkeeper Sets Himself on Fire in Protest Against 500 Million Toman Fine

On Tuesday, a man in Tehran set himself on fire in front of Tehran Municipality building on Behesht Street in protest against a 500 million toman fine that the municipality had imposed on him.
This shopkeeper, whose efforts to have the fine cancelled had been unsuccessful, attempted to set his family members on fire as well after immolating himself, but was prevented from doing so with the intervention of bystanders.
After the fire was extinguished, the man was transferred to a burns hospital due to severe burn injuries.
Domestic news agencies reported that despite the shopkeeper having paid a sum in recent months for changing the commercial use of his shop, Tehran Municipality continued to refuse to issue him an operating permit.
