Marketers' strikes, gatherings, and pensioners' protests continue in various cities

Reports from Iran indicate that anti-government protests, market workers' strikes, and pensioner gatherings continued in various cities on Tuesday, June 14.

According to the published videos, a number of market vendors in the cities of Shiraz, Isfahan, Arak, Borujerd, Kazerun, and Minab closed their shops and in some of these cities they also held protest rallies in front of tax offices.

At these gatherings, slogans were chanted against the government of Ebrahim Raisi and his cabinet.

"Incompetent official, we don't want it, we don't want it" and "Reza Shah, may your soul rest in peace" are some of the slogans heard during these protests.

Bazaar owners are protesting the rising dollar price, the instability of the foreign exchange market, and the government's decision to increase taxes on the private sector several times. A number of bazaars and merchants on Amin Street in Tehran have also gone on strike and closed their shops over the past two days in protest of the economic situation.

These protests began three days ago, coinciding with the increase in the price of the dollar to 33,000 Tomans in a number of cities.

In recent years, Islamic Republic officials have consistently identified "market disruptors" as the cause of the increase in the dollar's price, and have also arrested individuals under this title.

At the same time, protest rallies by social security retirees against their living conditions and low salaries continued in several Iranian cities.

According to videos posted on social media, these retirees held protest rallies in the cities of Kermanshah, Zanjan, Shush, and Ahvaz on Tuesday, June 14.

Protesters chanted slogans such as "Neither the parliament nor the government cares about the nation," "Inflation is 100 percent, our share is 10 percent," and "Enough promises, our table is empty."

Social security retirees are demanding an increase in their salaries to match the real cost of living and the inflation rate, saying that salaries were supposed to increase by 38 percent, but according to the government's announcement, they will only increase by 10 percent. The protest by social security retirees, which began about 10 days ago, has been held in various cities over the past few days, including Tehran, Karaj, Arak, Zanjan, Shush, Ahvaz, Ilam, Shiraz, Yazd, Khorramabad, Kermanshah, Khorramabad, Kerman, Qazvin, Dorud, Bandar Abbas, Shushtar, Tabriz, and Mashhad.
