New arrest after Iranian man killed in Berlin subway station

A 30-year-old Iranian man was killed after being pushed from a platform onto the tracks at a Berlin subway station. Police initially arrested one suspect, who has since been released. Another person has now been arrested.

German investigators have arrested another man after an Iranian man was killed at a subway station in Berlin's Kreuzberg district.

According to the Anti-Vi website, the German prosecutor's office said the arrest took place on the evening of Saturday, November 2. The prosecutor added that he could not provide any further information at this time.

But the German newspaper Bild says the arrested person is 26 years old. The newspaper wrote that investigators have found clues to drug dealing in this criminal act in their investigation.

Another man was initially detained but was later released. Eyewitnesses have given conflicting accounts. In addition, the quality of CCTV footage at the scene is also mediocre.

Martin Steltner, a spokesman for the German Attorney General's Office, says the investigation into the case will continue carefully.

On the evening of Wednesday, November 28, a 30-year-old Iranian man was pushed off the platform at the Kotbossar Tour metro station towards a Line 8 train that had entered the station. The severity of his injuries was such that he died on the spot. Police say that the man and a man who was with him had previously been involved in a fight with a large group to which the perpetrator of this criminal act belonged.

Police said Saturday that a review of video footage, an extensive investigation and eyewitness statements led officers to the suspect, who was detained and later released.

The Brandenburg police arrested the man at the main railway station in Eberswalde on Friday evening and handed him over to the Berlin police. The man did not resist arrest.

Investigators are still investigating the background to the fight at the Berlin subway station, but the results so far indicate that the fight was linked to drug-related crimes.

The prosecutor's office has also spoken of gaining strong leads related to drug dealing that may be behind this incident.

Police say the victim lived in Berlin and was known to police because he had a previous drug-related case.

Berlin's Cottbuser Tor train station, also known as "Cott" by Berliners, is one of the places that the police have classified as a hotspot due to the numerous crimes that have occurred there. Drugs, including heroin, have been sold here for decades.
