Some Duties of Christians in Iran’s Turbulent Circumstances

This article begins by raising two questions. Can prayer change Iran’s turbulent and crisis conditions? Should one only pray, or can other actions be taken as well? Certainly, by looking at Christian social media pages and speaking with believers in Jesus Christ in churches, you will encounter these questions.

Today, many articles and pieces are written about prayer and changing impossible circumstances, and with a simple Google search, one can find various sources about prayer.

That prayer is offered for Iran today does not mean that God becomes ready through people’s prayers for His will, but rather that people themselves become ready for God’s will. Prayer is the only way to unleash God’s mighty power in turbulent conditions and can shatter all chains that Satan, in the name of religion, has bound to people’s feet. United prayer in Christianity is a key that opens the doors of heaven, locks the doors of hell, and nullifies the wicked counsel of government rulers. A Christian without prayer is a defeated Christian. A church without prayer is a defeated church, and a nation without prayer is a defeated nation. The question is, why should one pray? Because God answers.

God’s Word in the book of “Matthew Chapter 18, Verse 18” says: Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven.

God has given the church authority to take the initiative. He wants people to stop going in circles and complaining about Iran’s condition, and also to stop saying “When will God change conditions?”

The Prophet Elijah, with one prayer, brought down a nation’s economy. This is power!!! When people pray, they must remember they are speaking with a God who is able to destroy addiction fortresses in Iran. He is able to eliminate prostitution, abortion, and every other act. He is a God who with His breath splits the mighty cedars of Lebanon in two. All the waters of the earth are like a drop in the palm of His hands, and He knows the weight of all mountains.

Given the above explanations, questions arise that can be answered by referring to the Holy Scripture:

Can prayer change Iran’s turbulent and crisis conditions, or besides that can other things be done as well?

Let us look together at the great work of the Prophet Elijah. The oppression that King Ahab and his wife Jezebel inflicted on people was unprecedented. It started with the worship of idols and foreign gods and Jezebel’s hatred of the true God, and continued until the killing of the innocent and wicked deeds. During that period, many people were forced to hide in caves out of fear for their lives in order to survive.

In the book of “1 Kings Chapter 18,” when the Prophet Elijah stands in the presence of Ahab and false prophets, he prays. He was aware of God’s power and his own faith. In verses 36 and 37, he prays so that God hears his voice from heaven, performs a miracle, and destroys the foundation of oppression so that everyone knows there is only one true God. A God who stands against oppression and takes the cry of the oppressed from the oppressor.

For example, one can refer to the film “Walk With Me” (When War Comes Home). In this film, it shows that the Christian organization Iris Global serves refugees in South Sudan. In the war between South Sudan and North Sudan, which is entirely a display of power and for political purposes, many people can be seen who have lost their lives. At one point, trucks carrying food from Uganda to Sudan are stopped due to war and do not reach Sudan, which causes many children to lose their lives due to poverty and food shortage. At that time, a servant named “Mama Caroline” comes from America guided by God to serve in a refugee camp in South Sudan and by teaching children, prayer, worship, and fasting amid war, saves the lives of 150 children. This true documentary demonstrates the power of prayer on the battlefield.

What about other actions that can be taken?

  1. One must be the voice of the Iranian people. Today, much news is published on social media pages and news channels. Before anything else, one must verify the accuracy of the news and not be satisfied with merely publishing news, because everyone publishes news. Along with publishing news, God’s Word and a verse or blessing from the Holy Scripture should be presented so that everyone knows that Christians’ hope is in the living God. Believers in Christ, as God’s people, are bearers of good news; therefore, alongside spreading bitter news, the good news of true freedom and salvation must also be presented. Satan advances through fear and despair, and if people only transmit discouraging news to each other, they have helped create a dark world. It is Christians’ work to spread good news and proclaim true freedom so that people move forward with renewed hope and unity.

2- Doctors or nurses can, with prayer and God’s guidance, treat those who are wounded. If they are present in the streets and at gatherings, they must definitely carry first aid supplies with them to help the wounded. Those who have vehicles should, if possible, take the injured to a safe place. All these actions must be done with God’s guidance so that no one faces problems. (To understand God’s guidance and hear His voice, you can refer to articles available on the Perpasokh website.)

3- Those who are outside of Iran can also participate in gatherings held in their cities to be the voice of their Iranian compatriots. Also, if possible, they can send letters or emails to governors, mayors, human rights organizations, and officials of their cities to inform them of Iran’s crisis conditions. Although almost the entire world is now aware of these catastrophes, this action can also be fruitful in exposing the wicked deeds of the Islamic Republic.

In conclusion, it should be noted that it is better that no action be taken without consulting with God and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. One must pray so that God’s plan and design become clear. The plan and design that God provides can have great impact on current conditions.
And finally, our prayer as Christians is that the light of Christ shines upon Iran. Like Elijah, we pray that God will act, so that everyone knows there is only one true God and the freedom He gives is incomparable and will not perish.

So if the Son sets you free, you will indeed be free. “John Chapter 8, Verse 36”
