Biography of Reverend Vruyr Avansyan

Reverend Vruyr Avansyan was born in 1952 in Tehran to an Armenian family. He spent his entire life in this city. After completing his primary education, he finished his secondary studies at the Armenian “Kooshesh” High School.

As a young man with a love for art and raised in an artistic family, particularly by his father who was a traditional instrument musician, he quickly demonstrated his God-given talents in this field.

Consequently, in his youth he devoted himself to singing and musical performance, and spent many years active in this profession. During this period of his life, he was recognized in the Armenian community of Iran as a famous and beloved singer, and released numerous songs and melodies in album form.

Continuing alongside his artistic activities, he went through difficult and bitter experiences and became trapped in addiction.

It was during this period that in 1978 he heard the good news of God’s word from his sister and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

With finding new birth in God’s family, the renewal and revival of his new life began. This extraordinary event placed him on a new path and glorious service in God’s kingdom and became a source of lasting fruits for God’s church in Iran.

Reverend Vruyr Avansyan married sister Rima Margosyan in 1982.

One of the fruits of this blessed marriage was having three beautiful and beloved children: two daughters named Melanie and Raissa, and a son named Steve, all three of whom are also active in music and art.

Following his marriage to a worthy and good wife who was also skilled in artistic works, particularly painting, and beginning their shared family life in the vast field of the heavenly kingdom, Reverend Vruyr Avansyan increased the pace of his sacred service from the very beginning. He composed many Christian spiritual hymns and melodies in both Persian and Armenian, inspired by God’s word and God’s spirit. These works were sung and performed in churches throughout Iran over many years.

Among his other valuable and enduring services to the church in Iran was the development and flourishing of church worship at a high level and degree. He created choirs and directed them. For many years he organized consecutive concerts of spiritual hymns and performed them on the pulpits of various churches.

Reverend Vruyr Avansyan was himself the principal singer and director of all the above worship programs.

In this realm of his service, he also made extensive and widespread efforts and activities by organizing classes and presenting various lessons, particularly for youth and interested individuals.

Reverend Vruyr Avansyan also performed brilliant services in evangelical and pastoral work at the Jama’at-e Rabbani Church of Iran. Initially, he took responsibility for deacons at the central Jama’at-e Rabbani church and performed praiseworthy service in the worship section of worship sessions. He subsequently served and assisted in spiritual church services at the Majidieh district church of Tehran in cooperation with the late Leon Hairapetyan.

Gradually, after many years had passed and his fruitful services in various fields were observed, he was appointed as shepherd of the Jama’at-e Rabbani Church of the Narmak district of Tehran. He continuously offered his blessed and grace-filled services to his sisters and brothers there for 9 years.

This blessed brother continued his service among Persian speakers in the final years of his earthly life, after which he was detained and arrested for some time. However, even after that, he did not abandon his service!…

Reverend Vruyr Avansyan passed away on the morning of Wednesday, November 29, 2017, following a chronic illness, and joined the saints in heaven.

May his memory be honored, his spirit be blessed, and his path be full of travelers. Amen.
