The number of people infected with the coronavirus in Iran has exceeded 3 million; concerns about the suspension of vaccination in some cities

According to the latest announcement by the Iranian Ministry of Health, while nearly 4.3 million people in the country have received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine so far, only less than 750,000 have managed to get the second dose. On the other hand, the suspension of vaccination in some Iranian cities, despite promises by officials, has caused concern among citizens.

Iranian media reported, based on a statement from the Ministry of Interior on Thursday, June 10, that 153 people in the country lost their lives in the past 24 hours due to complications from COVID-19.

According to this statistic, 81,672 people have died in Iran due to the coronavirus so far. According to this report, 12,398 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in Iran in the past 24 hours, of which nearly 1,500 people have been hospitalized. With this, the number of infected people in Iran has reached 3,03,112.

This is despite the fact that, according to experts, the number of people infected and dead due to coronavirus may be up to four times higher than the official figures.

In terms of the spread of Corona in Iran, sixteen cities are in red status (very high risk), 201 cities are in orange status (high risk), and 231 cities are in yellow status (medium risk).

According to Voice of America, while Iranian health officials continue to make promises related to vaccination, the suspension of vaccination in some Iranian cities has caused concern among citizens.

Kianoush Jahanpour, spokesman for the Food and Drug Administration, had announced the import of about seven million doses of the vaccine this month, but as evidenced by reports of vaccine shortages, this has been delayed.

Alireza Naji, head of the Virology Research Center and member of the Covid-19 Scientific Committee, blamed part of this mess on the vaccine production companies Sinopharm and Sputnik, saying that they had "made false statements."

Alireza Vahabzadeh, advisor to the Minister of Health, also took to Twitter to point out that the main reason for this delay was the vaccine manufacturers and the consumption of "80 percent" of the vaccine stock by "several countries."

On June 11, the World Health Organization announced a 15% decrease in the number of new infections worldwide, reaching 3.5 million.

Iran, with more than 69,000 infected people, ranks sixth in the world in terms of the number of new infections.
