Court hearing held to investigate charges against Mehraveh Khandan, Nasrin Sotoudeh's daughter

The court hearing on the charges against Mehraveh Khandan, the 20-year-old daughter of Nasrin Sotoudeh, was held on Monday, November 25, at Branch 1175 of the Quds Judicial Complex. She was arrested on August 17 of this year and released minutes later from Evin Prosecutor's Office after posting bail.
According to HRANA News Agency, the news agency of the Human Rights Activists in Iran, on Monday, November 25, 2020, a court hearing was held to investigate the charges against Mehraveh Khandan, the 20-year-old daughter of Nasrin Sotoudeh.
Reza Khandan explained about this court session, which was held in Branch 1175 of the Quds Judicial Complex, in response to the complaint filed by Fatemeh Hassanpour, an officer of the women's ward of Evin Prison: "The esteemed lawyers in the case, Mr. Mustafa Nili and Ms. Shadi Halimi, as well as Mehraveh, presented their defenses. The judge in the case asked the plaintiffs to submit a CD containing the video of the meeting room on the day in question. Therefore, it was decided that the CCTV footage of the meeting room would be delivered on Saturday so that the judge in the case could issue a ruling based on it and other evidence in the case. On the other hand, in parallel with the court session, the Qarchak Prison worker and the Evin Prison judicial representative requested a compromise and withdrawal from the case, which was not agreed to by Mehraveh."
He was arrested on August 17 of this year and released minutes later after posting bail from Evin Prosecutor's Office.
Previously, Reza Khandan, Nasrin Sotoudeh's husband, confirmed the news in an interview with HRANA's reporter, saying: "Five security officers came to the door of the house and, without any prior summons, arrested Mehraveh without providing any explanation and transferred her to Branch 1 of the Evin Prosecutor's Office. Finally, after several hours of investigation, she was released a few minutes later after posting bail."
During the years of Nasrin Sotoudeh's imprisonment, her family has always been under pressure from security and judicial institutions.
Nasrin Sotoudeh, a lawyer and human rights activist imprisoned in the women's ward of Evin Prison, announced her hunger strike on Tuesday, August 11, in a letter detailing her demand for the release of political prisoners.
Nasrin Sotoudeh, a lawyer and human rights activist, was arrested at her home on June 13, 2018, and transferred to Evin Prison. According to Mohammad Moghimi, one of Sotoudeh's lawyers, she was sentenced to a total of 38 years in prison with 148 lashes for Nasrin's two open cases; 5 years in prison for the first case and 33 years in prison with 148 lashes for the second case.
In the second case, Ms. Sotoudeh was sentenced in absentia in a court session held on January 28, 2018, at Branch 28 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, on seven charges, including “gathering and colluding against national security, propaganda activities against the system, effective membership in the illegal and anti-security group of the Human Rights Defenders Center, the Ban on Executions and the National Peace Council, encouraging people to engage in corruption and prostitution and providing the conditions for it, appearing without a religious veil at the interrogation branch, disturbing public order and peace, and spreading lies with the intention of disturbing public opinion.” However, according to Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code in Iran, 12 of this period is “executable.”
Ms. Sotoudeh is the mother of two children, Mehravah and Nima.
