Floods in Iran's northern provinces cause heavy damage and a number of deaths

Flooding and inundation caused by heavy rainfall over the past two days have caused severe damage and a number of deaths in four northern provinces of Iran.

ISNA news agency reported on Saturday, October 4, that floods in the provinces of North Khorasan, Golestan, Mazandaran, and Gilan have left seven people dead, while the Red Crescent Organization reported five deaths and that 1,400 people had been rescued.

Heavy rainfall that began on Friday caused flooding and inundation in cities in four northern provinces, including the cities of Nowshahr, Chalus, Tonekabon, Ramsar, Behshahr, Fereydounkenar, and Sari in Mazandaran Province.

The cities of Ramsar and Tonekabon are in a critical situation, and schools in western Mazandaran province have been declared closed.

In addition, the cities of Soumeh Sara, Rasht, Chabaksar, Qale Rudkhan, Rudsar, Lahijan, Masal, and Talesh in Gilan Province and several cities in Golestan Province and North Khorasan Province have also suffered damage.

Reports indicate power outages in some areas due to damage to facilities, the destruction of some bridges, flooding of some homes, and the destruction of infrastructure.

According to reports from domestic Iranian news agencies, in addition to destroying roads, bridges, and infrastructure, the flood has also caused extensive damage to gardens, agricultural lands, and warehouses of agricultural products.
