Shahrzad Nazifi, a motorcycle racing champion, has been banned from entering the track because she is a Baha'i.

Shahrzad Nazifi, a Baha'i citizen and one of the women's motocross champions and coaches in Iran, along with her husband Mehrshad Naraghi and their two children Marat and Nora, have been banned from participating in motorcycling sports activities.

The Human Rights in Iran website reported on Monday, May 6, that Shahrzad Nazifi, Mehrshad Naraghi, and their children, all motocross champions and Baha'i citizens of Iran, have been barred from entering motorcycle racing tracks, participating in competitions, training, and motorcycle riding instruction without a court order.

According to this report, this incident occurred while no institution has accepted responsibility for this restriction and no ruling has been issued regarding it.

Shahrzad Nazifi was arrested by security agents on November 17 last year and released from Evin Prison after 15 days on bail of 700 million Tomans pending the completion of the trial.

The US State Department's Special Advisor on Religious Minorities in the Middle East, South and Central Asia has criticized the continued persecution of minorities in Iran and called on the Islamic Republic to immediately release all prisoners of conscience and respect religious freedom.
