Iran advances to the 2018 World Cup in Moscow

The match between the national football teams of Iran and Uzbekistan was held on Monday evening at Tehran's Azadi Stadium. The Iranian national team scored two goals against Uzbekistan in the 23rd and 88th minutes of the game, and with this victory, qualified for the 2018 World Cup in Moscow.
The match between the national football teams of Iran and Uzbekistan started on Monday (June 12) at 21:15 Tehran time at the Azadi Stadium in Tehran. The first half of the match ended with Iran leading 1-0. Sardar Azmoun scored Iran's first goal in the 23rd minute. The first half ended with the same result.
In the second half, Mehdi Taremi gained possession of the ball inside the penalty area and, after passing the defender in front, scored the ball into the Uzbekistan goal. The game ended with a score of 2-0 in favor of Iran.
With this victory, Iran has 20 points and qualified for the World Cup in Moscow. Uzbekistan has 12 points and its task to qualify for the World Cup has become difficult. Iran is the third team to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, after hosts Russia and Brazil.
This is the fifth appearance of the Iranian national football team in the World Cup. Iran also participated in the 1978 World Cup in Argentina, 1998 in France, 2006 in Germany, and 2014 in Brazil.

Due to Andreev's injury in the 7th minute, the head coach of the Uzbekistan national team made a forced substitution and sent Kashimov on the field in his place.
