Narges Mohammadi's lawyer: Prisoners of the women's ward in Qarchak have been threatened and have no security of life

On Tuesday, June 1, the lawyer for imprisoned human rights activist Narges Mohammadi announced the "threat to the lives of political prisoners in Qarchak Women's Prison," including her client and Alia Motabalzadeh.
In an interview with the "Imtadad" website, Mustafa Nili reported, among other things, that a prisoner with a murder case sent a threatening message to Narges Mohammadi and Alia Motabalzadeh, saying: "In this message, he told these two political prisoners, 'I will kill you and become famous by doing this.'"
Noting that this ordinary prisoner had "no previous problems or conflicts" with Mohammadi and Motabalzadeh, he said that threats against political prisoners by ordinary prisoners without "any history of arguments or disagreements" seem "suspicious."
As Mr. Nili said, the attempt by several ordinary prisoners to cause a conflict when Narges Mohammadi visited a specialist doctor in the prison, as well as the "gathering, insulting, and threatening" of a number of other ordinary prisoners in front of the political prisoners' ward in recent days, are examples of threats to the lives of these prisoners.
He cited the closed door as preventing them from entering the political prison ward, and recalled similar incidents in previous years involving a number of political prisoners, including the attacks on Golrokh Iraei and Atena Daemi, and the beatings of Shakila Monfared and Saba Kord Afshari.
In March last year, imprisoned civil activist Yasman Ariani was beaten by a number of prisoners serving general sentences in Kachoui Prison in Karaj.
In another part of his interview, Mr. Nili referred to the disruption of the "physical and psychological security of political prisoners in Qarchak Prison," saying that "the environment for political prisoners in this prison has become dangerous" and that "prison officials have not yet taken urgent action to maintain security."
He said that he has informed the Evin Prosecutor's Office and the Department for Monitoring Political, Ideological, and Security Prisoners about this issue, and "they have also promised to follow up, but I have not received a response from them yet."
This lawyer also stated that the "main reason" for these incidents was "the failure to comply with the law and the deportation of political prisoners" to Qarchak.
Three years ago, the inattention of the authorities to the security of political prisoners in Greater Tehran Prison led to Alireza Shirmohammad Ali being beaten and murdered by two prisoners after being threatened several times.
