"Less than 40 Iranian cheetahs" remain

Referring to the decline in the cheetah population in Iran, the CEO of the Iranian Cheetah Association said that there are probably fewer than 40 Iranian cheetahs left.
In an interview published on Monday, September 1, in Mehr News Agency, Morteza Pourmirzaei warned about the risk of "accidental extinction" of Iranian cheetahs, saying that cheetahs may "die every day in their habitat due to accidents, dog attacks, etc."
Emphasizing that the situation is "critical," he said about the policies for the care and protection of Iranian cheetahs: "Currently, the situation of cheetahs has reached a point where preserving the species is more preferable."
Morteza Pourmirzaei has mentioned measures such as purchasing and protecting pastures, hiring and equipping environmentalists, and "implementing a breeding project in semi-captive conditions" as programs to revive and preserve the yaks.
