Another British-Iranian arrested in Iran: Social science researcher Kamil Ahmadi

Kamil Ahmadi, a British-Iranian writer and social science researcher, was arrested by security forces in Tehran.

Shafaq Rahmani, the wife of Kamil Ahmadi, published the news of the researcher's arrest on her Instagram page on Tuesday, August 12, and wrote that Mr. Ahmadi was arrested on Sunday, August 10, and Branch 1 of the Evin Security Court has issued a one-month detention order for him.

According to Ms. Rahmani's Instagram post, there is currently no information about the reason for Kamil Ahmadi's arrest or the charges against him.

According to the Kurdistan Human Rights Network, Mr. Ahmadi's home and car were searched by security officers in three stages, and some of his personal belongings were confiscated. On the third day of his detention, he made a brief phone call to his wife, requesting a lawyer, but did not provide information about his whereabouts.

Last year, Kamil Ahmadi won the World Peace Foundation's Literature and Humanities Award at George Washington University for his research and activities in the field of social harms, with an emphasis on "gender," "children," and "minorities."

Kamil Ahmadi, an anthropologist and researcher, recently spoke to Iranian media and told ISNA that, based on research, there are about 14,000 informal garbage collectors in the country, and 89 percent of garbage collectors are "illegal immigrants."
