Protest Gathering by Workers of “Nepheline Syenite Kalib” Complex

Workers of the “Nepheline Syenite Kalib” complex held a protest gathering in defense of their rights and entitlements.
The “Nepheline Syenite Kalib” mine is the largest nepheline-bearing deposit discovered in the country, covering an area of approximately 100 square kilometers located 15 kilometers south of Kalib city. The discovered reserves amount to approximately 7 million tons concentrated in a limited area, while the potential reserves of this deposit are estimated to exceed 96 million tons.
“Nepheline Syenite” is an intermediate igneous mineral rock that has attracted considerable attention in most countries of the world due to its exceptional value in various industries including aluminum, glass and ceramics, plastics, rubber, mineral wool and fiberglass production, chemical fertilizers, and others.
Following strikes and protests by personnel in various Iranian industries due to non-compliance with workers’ rights and entitlements, workers of this large complex have now held a protest gathering in objection to the non-conclusion of employment contracts, non-payment of wages and insurance benefits. This gathering began this morning and will continue.
It should be noted that another reason for these protests, which have generated considerable controversy in recent years, is the controversial awarding of the mining and processing plant operation of “Nepheline Syenite Kalib.”
