New Wave of Executions at Qarchak Prison in Karaj

The head of Qarchak Prison announced the beginning of execution of death sentences in the current year.

According to the report by the Iran Human Rights Organization, on Thursday, the 31st of Farvardin, corresponding to April 20, the head of Qarchak Prison informed inmates that executions would begin at this prison starting from the 5th of Ordibehesht.

Qarchak Prison is one of the most crowded prisons in Iran and the number of inmates sentenced to death is high. The inmates sentenced to death in this prison are accused of drug trafficking and murder. These death sentences have been issued while in recent days, the primary defendant in the Ukrainian airplane case, which resulted in the death of over 179 people in a missile attack, was only sentenced to 13 years in prison.

This news has not only caused stress and anxiety among inmates sentenced to death, but has also caused concern for their families. Last year, over 700 inmates were executed. Like before, the families of inmates took to protest gatherings with the slogan “Do not execute,” in response to this news. Over the past few months, we have witnessed the execution of death sentences for loved ones who protested in Iran, who were accused of moharebeh and corruption on earth for seeking justice and protesting, and death sentences were issued for them. Executions that reached the ears of people around the world.

The question here is: what intention does the Islamic Republic system harbor with this new wave of execution of death sentences? Is it intended to cloud public opinion about the popular revolution and postpone the collapse of the system?
