Three Independent Retiree Organizations Criticize Employment and Living Conditions in Iran

Three independent retiree organizations issued a joint statement on the eve of International Workers’ Day on May 1st and Teachers’ Day on Ordibehesht 12th, criticizing mounting inflation, severe decline in people’s purchasing power, and the spread of poverty and destitution.

The Council of Iranian Retirees, the National Union of Iranian Retirees, and the Retirees’ Unity Group stated in their statement that the pensions and wages of retirees, workers, teachers, nurses, and other wage earners are several times below the poverty line.

They accused the government and ruling political authorities of blocking the path to free expression and pursuing grievances, and treating demands as a crime.

These organizations wrote: The government, parliament, and officials in charge have no will to increase salaries and create a balance between living costs and wages and pensions.

In this statement, referring to summons, prosecutions, file-building, imprisonment and prison sentences, it was emphasized that the cries of workers, teachers, retirees, and the toiling masses will not be silenced.
