A young woman in Dehno village, a suburb of Zarin Dasht, was killed by her father with multiple blows to the head from an iron rod. Iranian law contains provisions that exempt individuals who commit “honor killings” from severe punishments.

According to Hrana News Agency, citing local sources, a young woman in Dehno village, a suburb of Zarin Dasht in Fars Province, was killed by her father.

The identity of the girl, who was killed by multiple blows to the head with an iron rod, has been identified as Zeinab Mazidi, 20 years old.

It is reported that her father killed her under the pretext of her decision to divorce for the second time, and he was arrested hours after the incident occurred.

Honor-based violence or honor killings refer to acts of violence and often the murder of women in a family by their male relatives.

These women are punished for “bringing shame to their family’s honor.” This shame includes various circumstances such as refusing forced marriage, being a victim of sexual assault, getting divorced (even from an unsuitable husband), having a relationship with the opposite sex, or committing adultery. For a person to become a victim of honor-based violence, it is sufficient merely to be suspected of having brought dishonor to the family.
