Death of Middle-Aged Man Following ‘Protest’ Self-Immolation in Front of Arak Labor Office

Iranian media reported on Sunday, November 23, about the self-immolation of a 65-year-old man in front of the Arak Labor Office.
Reports indicate that the man committed self-immolation in response to a ruling issued in his dispute case with his employer, and after being transferred to the hospital, he died due to the severity of his injuries.
According to informed sources, the man was protesting against the ruling issued by the dispute resolution boards of the Labor Office (the authority responsible for resolving disputes between workers and employers).
The General Department of Cooperatives, Labor, and Social Welfare of Arak has not yet issued a response to this incident.
Published reports have made no reference to the identity of this citizen or the details of his case at the dispute resolution council.
Since 2020, numerous reports have been published about self-immolations and suicides among workers and other social groups in Iran due to increasing poverty and economic pressures, including the suicide of three teachers, the self-immolation of three workers in front of the Road and Urban Development Office in Kermanshah, a self-immolation that resulted in the death of the wife of a municipal worker in Dahdashte, and also the suicide of the child of one of the casualties of the Iran-Iraq eight-year war in Yasuj.
