After Two Months, Iran’s Official Coronavirus Statistics Return to Over 3,000 Cases Per Day

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Health announced the identification of 3,117 new coronavirus patients in the past 24 hours.
Since the outbreak of coronavirus in Iran from April 1st of this year onwards, the number of newly identified cases had dropped below 3,000 people, and this is the first time after sixty days that the number of new cases has exceeded 3,000 per day again.
Kianosh Jahanpour, who announced daily coronavirus infection statistics on Tuesday, June 3rd, stated that 64 more coronavirus patients died in the past 24 hours, saying: “Hormozgan, West Azerbaijan, Isfahan, Kurdistan, Kermanshah, and Bushehr provinces are in alert status.”
Accordingly, according to official Ministry of Health statistics, so far across the country, 157,562 people have been infected with coronavirus and 7,942 have died.
Mr. Jahanpour also stated that so far 123,077 patients have recovered or been discharged from hospitals, and 2,565 patients are under care in severe condition from this disease.
The Ministry of Health’s statistics on the coronavirus situation in Iran are being released while previously some parliamentary representatives and city council members had accused the Ministry of Health of concealing statistics about coronavirus deaths and cases.
The Research Center of Parliament had previously estimated in a report that the number of deaths was double and the number of cases was 8 to 10 times the Ministry of Health’s figures.

He said that wearing masks in Tabriz metro and buses will be mandatory and there is a possibility that some occupational restrictions will be tightened.
The governor of Tabriz at the same time emphasized that the number of hospitalized and deceased patients had a 50 percent decrease, but “the overall slope of cases is upward.”
In Bushehr as well, Saeid Kashmiri, the head of the medical sciences university of this city, stated that the trend of coronavirus spread and infection in this province “has been increasing” over the past month.
He announced the total number of cases in this province as 1,126 people and said that 14 people have also died.
Over the past three months, provincial statistics on coronavirus infection and mortality in various provinces have not been announced, and this is one of the rare instances where a local official formally announces coronavirus statistics at the provincial level.
