Traffic Accident Claims Lives of Two Iranian Refugees in Greece

Mohsen Ahmadi and Rezgar Qurban, two Iranian refugees in Greece, were killed in a traffic accident.

According to a report by the Hengaw human rights organization, the accident occurred on Saturday morning, June 5, in the city of Kavala, Greece. A vehicle carrying refugees overturned, resulting in 4 deaths and 4 injuries, two of whom were Iranian.

In this accident, Luqman Ahmadi, brother of Mohsen Ahmadi, was also injured, and no information has been released about the identity of other individuals.

Police pursuit of the refugee-carrying vehicle and the vehicle’s overturn due to excessive speed have been cited as the cause of the accident.

In another traffic accident in the Xanthi region of Greece that occurred on Saturday, a car carrying 6 refugees crashed after being chased by police for speeding, resulting in 3 refugees being injured and hospitalized.

The identities of these individuals have not been disclosed, but Greek police say that in addition to these six people, they managed to arrest 18 other refugees and 7 people who assisted them on Saturday.

Greece is one of the most important routes for refugees who intend to reach European countries from Turkey with the help of human smugglers.

Greek government authorities have taken increasingly strict measures in recent months to control and close borders, and in some cases to return refugee boats to sea.
