Official Corona Statistics in Iran; Death Toll Exceeds Seven Thousand

According to a spokesman for Iran’s Ministry of Health, with the death of 69 coronavirus patients, the total number of victims of the disease in Iran reached 7,057 according to official statistics.

Kianush Jahanpour, who announced official coronavirus news on Monday, the 29th of Ordibehesht, also reported the identification of 2,294 new patients over the past 24 hours and said the total number of infected people has reached 123,492.

He said that out of all infected individuals, “95,661 patients have recovered and been discharged,” and 2,712 people “are under care in severe condition of the disease.”

The Ministry of Health’s statistics on the coronavirus situation in Iran are being released while previously some members of parliament and members of Tehran’s city council have accused the Ministry of Health of concealing statistics on coronavirus deaths and cases.

Also, the statistics released by members of Tehran’s city council regarding the approximate number of deaths “in Tehran” are consistent with the statistics announced by the Ministry of Health regarding deaths “across the entire country.”

The Research Center of Parliament also previously estimated the number of deaths at twice and the number of infected at 8 to 10 times the Ministry of Health’s figures in a report.

Rabiei: 280 Cities Have Green Status

Meanwhile, Ali Rabiei, spokesman for the Iranian government, claiming that we have entered the phase of controlling the coronavirus disease, said that green areas where coronavirus is less prevalent have “increased to 280 cities.”

He also said regarding the coronavirus situation in some provinces that have red status, there are concerns about Sistan and Baluchestan and Khuzestan, but regarding Tehran and East Azerbaijan “we have no acute issues.”

According to the government spokesman, in recent days in Tehran “the lowest coronavirus death rate” from February 19th until now has been recorded, which was “a very low and encouraging figure.”

The government spokesman did not provide detailed statistics in this regard. Iranian government officials have refrained from providing detailed coronavirus statistics in different provinces for about two months.
