University of Tehran Security: 9 Detained Students Released

The news channel of student unions says that among 40 to 50 arrests on Monday, November 25, some have been transferred to Fashafuyeh and Evin prisons. The head of University of Tehran security says the number of detained students has been exaggerated.

Mahmoud Nili Ahmadabadi, president of the University of Tehran, announced that he is following up on the release of students arrested in recent protests: “Some of them have been released and we hope many others will be released soon.”

Nili, noting that the number of detainees is changing, did not provide a figure for arrested students.

In the Telegram channel “Student Unions of the Country,” it was stated that on Monday, November 25 alone, between 40 to 50 student activists from the University of Tehran were arrested. The channel reported that plainclothes officers used ambulances to enter the university and arrest students.

The channel wrote that the arrests of students took place at night and in darkness, and some of them were transferred to Fashafuyeh and Evin prisons. Five of those arrested are students from Allameh Tabatabai University.

Saha Mortazaei, former secretary of the University of Tehran’s central student union, Yashar Dareshshafa, student activist, Mohammad Amin Hosseini, former secretary of Nowshiravani Babol University’s student union, Ali Nanvai, University of Tehran student, Kamiar Zouqi, University of Tehran social sciences student, are among the students arrested at home or on the streets. Due to internet outages, there is no further information about the identity and number of students arrested in ongoing protests.

Ismail Soleimani, head of the University of Tehran security, announced on Thursday, November 30, that 9 detained students have been released. He simultaneously claimed that the number of arrests has been exaggerated but provided no figures.

The student unions of the country said that security agencies, in contact with some students and their families, have warned that if they are seen on campus, they will be arrested.
