Ministry of Intelligence: 17 Arrested on Charges of Spying for America

Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence announced on Monday that it has arrested 17 people accused of “spying for the CIA organization” and some of these individuals have been sentenced to death.

According to ISNA news agency, the ministry announced that the counter-espionage department of the Ministry of Intelligence “succeeded in dismantling an espionage network linked to the American intelligence organization.”

Based on this report, sentences have been issued for these individuals and some of them “will be executed as corruptors on earth.”

The head of the counter-espionage department of the Ministry of Intelligence, whose name was not disclosed, said that these individuals “operated in a cellular structure in Iran and none of them had contact with each other.”

He announced: “The identified spies include employees of sensitive and vital centers, as well as the private sector related to these centers who have been operating as contractors or consultants.”

According to this Iranian Ministry of Intelligence official, “these sensitive and vital centers include the country’s economic, nuclear, military, and cyber sectors.”

He recalled that on June 18 (28 Khordad), the Ministry of Intelligence had also announced that it “succeeded in discovering and identifying an espionage network.”

Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence announced on Tuesday, June 18 (28 Khordad), that the ministry had recently “identified and dismantled a major espionage network of the American Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).”

Previously, Iranian Ministry of Intelligence officials made similar statements in this regard.

For instance, on April 19 (30 Farvardin), Mahmoud Alavi, Iran’s Minister of Intelligence, claimed that during this project, 290 “CIA spies” have been identified in various countries.

In 2011, Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence reported the discovery of “a complex espionage and sabotage network affiliated with the American intelligence organization” and the arrest of “30 American spies.”
