Tehran Mayor Says He Will Investigate ‘Rooftop Sales’ Phenomenon

Following the publication of images and reports on social media regarding ‘rooftop sales’ in Iran’s capital, Pirouz Hanachi, the Mayor of Tehran, said he will investigate this issue.
On Tuesday, the 30th of Bahman, the Tehran Mayor told IRNA that no legal action has been taken against this phenomenon so far, stating: “Installing light roofing on the top floor of a building in a way that lacks structural integrity is not a new issue, but we will seriously pursue the matter of rooftop sales.”
In recent days, reports and images have been published on some Iranian news websites indicating the construction of residential spaces using prefabricated containers and walls on rooftops. According to these reports, the owners of these buildings have sold portions of their rooftop space for this purpose.
It appears that the prevalence of such a phenomenon has occurred following the rise in housing prices coupled with high demand for it in Tehran and the intensification of economic hardships faced by residents.
