Daily coronavirus statistics in Iran; The reason why Qom returns to red status

A spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Health says that 174 more people have died from the coronavirus in the past 24 hours.

Thus, according to official statistics from the Ministry of Health, the number of coronavirus deaths in Iran has reached 17,976.

Sima Sadat Lari, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, also announced in her daily report on Thursday, August 6, that 2,634 new cases of COVID-19 had been recorded, adding that half of them, or 1,304 people, had been hospitalized.

According to Ms. Lari, currently, a total of 4,156 coronavirus patients are in severe condition and are hospitalized in intensive care units.

According to official statistics from the Ministry of Health, the accuracy of which is subject to serious doubts, 320,117 people in Iran have been infected with COVID-19 so far.

The official statistics of infected and dead people in Iran are not only not confirmed by independent institutions, but even some officials of the Islamic Republic have questioned them, and some sources, including the Research Center of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, have spoken of the number of deaths being double or more.

The situation of the provinces, especially Qom Province

According to the spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Health, the provinces of Mazandaran, Tehran, Golestan, North Khorasan, Ardabil, Isfahan, Alborz, Khorasan Razavi, Qom, Kerman, Semnan, East Azerbaijan, Markazi, Yazd, and Gilan are still in red status.

The provinces of Fars, Ilam, Lorestan, Hormozgan, Zanjan, Qazvin, West Azerbaijan, Bushehr, Hamedan, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, and Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad are also on alert.

Ms. Lari also said about the return of the status of Qom province from alert to red, noting that the first cases of the disease in Iran were identified in this province, Qom: "Since April, we have witnessed a downward trend in infections and hospitalizations in Qom province, but since June, this downward trend has stopped, and in the past six weeks, we have witnessed an upward trend in the disease graph in this province."

According to the spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, "the highest level of compliance with health protocols in this province was in offices, and the worst situation was in bakeries and supermarkets."

Health experts continue to state that adhering to the three principles of "physical distancing, frequent hand washing, and wearing a mask" are the most important factors in preventing the further spread of the coronavirus.
